A Calgary religious group is swapping the good book for gumdrops; the ‘Jesusween’ initiative encourages homes to hand out bibles as well as chocolate bars. “Now Christians don’t have to be timid or be quiet or hide on that night. They can spread the word of god!” says Pastor Tim of the Gateway International Church. The group says it’s their way of reclaiming All Hallows Eve. “We give it out in addition to candy. During an episode of “The 700 Club,” Robertson’s daily talk show, a viewer wrote in saying he felt “unsettled” by the fact that every year his church “hosted one of the area’s largest haunted houses,” and how popular the holiday was in the church community. Robertson responded, “I agree with you, we need the power of God, not some kind of earth-set entertainment. We don’t believe in haunted, we don’t believe in ghosts, we don’t believe in all this business. Halloween is Satan’s night, it’s the night of the devil.” He continued, “Churches shouldn’t do that. You can do something besides have a haunted house. Toronto organizers have been petitioning churches and canvassing at local shopping centres. Roughly 500 area churches have been made aware of the program, said John Crowne of JesusWeen’s Toronto office. Other grassroots marketers have posted flyers in grocery stores and on car windshields. The website states that 2011 efforts are focused on Toronto, Calgary and Edmonton. JesusWeen also encourages participants to forego “evil”-looking costumes in favour of all-white attire. But anti-JesusWeen campaigners have taken to social media in the run-up to Halloween, criticizing the initiative for targeting children with religious dogma. “A Protest Against Jesus Ween” and “Stop the fascist Jesus-ween movement” are two Facebook groups. Some Perspectives

Every year, the world and its system have a day set aside to celebrate ungodly images and evil characters while some Christians all over the world either participate, hide or just stay quiet in fear during the Halloween celebrations. In some countries, October 31st is the only day that is widely acceptable to solicit and knock on doors. God has inspired us to encourage Christians to use this day as an opportunity to spread the gospel. The days of hiding are over and we should feel comfortable to take a stand for Jesus. “Evil prevails when good people do nothing”. JesusWeen has steadily grown and it’s expected to become one of the most effective Christian outreaches. This faith-based act of love eventually became a 2 day outreach to better accommodate the volume of harvest.

How It Started

In 2002, Pastor Paul Ade requested 300 copies of New Testament pocket size Bibles from the Bible Society to use for personal evangelism. A few days before Halloween, a word came to him to give out bibles to everyone knocking at his door expecting candy. On that day over 40 bibles were given out without him stepping out of his house. All it took was putting a bible into every bag as they opened each bag with a smile. It was much easier than expected and since then he got his kids to join him each year. Then in 2011 Pastor Paul Ade was led to share his harvest report with other believers and it was well received. This was followed by a major publicity campaign and then the initiative went viral in several countries.

Our mission is to ensure that JesusWeen remains an annual family-friendly global phenomenon that Christians use to reach unbelievers in their neighbourhoods. We will continue to work with Christians from different backgrounds on creative ways to reach our world with the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Q: How is JesusWeen different from World Evangelism Day?
A: JesusWeen is a dedicated day to give out Christian scriptural gifts to strangers, especially those who knock on your door or those who patronize your business. This takes place more within your home, work, or immediate neighborhood. The World Evangelism Day is similar but more effective if done in groups or as a church. This involves going out to parks, malls and your entire neigbourhood to give a Christian life changing gift to anyone that is willing to receive them. Your group or church can create a plan for the entire city, or work within our strategy to enable churches to focus on different areas of the city, and together we will reach everyone. While JesusWeen is more closer to your home, World Evangelism Day is focused on the entire neigborhood, city and nation. It’s important to be strategic and thoughtful when planning. You may need a few weeks or months to plan, while a full year plan may be more appropriate if you are planning as a group or church. We should include prayers in our planning as well as fasting to ensure we succeed and grow yearly. JesusWeen is an annual global festival that holds every October 31st, while the next day is World Evangelism Day, November 1st.

Q: I love the idea of Jesus Ween and I intend to participate. However, I would like to give out candy in addition to the bibles. Is this okay?
A: The Jesus Ween initiative is not against candy. It’s all about spreading the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. So if you want to give out candy in addition to your Christian gifts, it is very okay.

Q: I want to participate in this initiative. Do I have to wear a white top on October 31^st?
A: Feel free to wear whatever you are comfortable with as long as it is consistent with the gospel you are spreading. We suggested wearing a white top because of those who have cultured themselves to wear an evil depicting costume on that day. You could dress as you do on any normal day.

Q: As a celebrant of Jesus Ween, what do I say to those who knock on my door to trick or treat?
A: Just say “Jesus Loves You” Please don’t get into any argument of some sort. Besides, Jesus did not send us to argue or to debate with the world, He sent us to spread the good news (gospel). Telling anyone (young or old) that Jesus loves them is the good news.

Q: What is JesusWin?
A: JesusWin is when a Christian gift of salvation is given to someone, or whenever the gospel is preached, or when someone receives salvation. The end goal is the seed of salvation has been planted and such a person either gets saved or now has a seed planted in or around them, to begin their journey that should eventually lead them to salvation.

Q: Where can I get the bibles to give out?
A: We previously helped with making bibles and tracts available, and we will help with such resources in the future. You can find organizations who provide bibles for free or for less than $2 online or in your city. You could also create your own tract or order from a Christian organization.

Q: Is it your objective to hijack Halloween and replace it with JesusWeen?
A: No, that is not our objective. The objective is to spread the gospel and expand the kingdom of God here on earth. Jesus Ween is an alternative for anyone who chooses not to celebrate Halloween, especially for Christians. Many Christians are not knowledgeable about the spiritual implications of some aspects of Halloween which is why we encourage them to choose Jesus Ween, the Godly alternative on October 31^st. Jesus Ween is about celebrating life not death.

Q: You could have chosen any other day in the year to spread the gospel but you chose October 31^st. Why?
A: There’s no better day to choose. October 31^st presents us with a unique opportunity to spread the gospel in that it is a day that is widely acceptable to solicit and go door to door, which is why we also call it World Evangelism Day and included November 1st for a peaceful outreach to show love by giving out free gifts like Jesus freely gave us salvation. You don’t even have to go out of your way; people will come to your doorstep anyway. So why not take advantage of the opportunities presented to us to make an impact.

Q: What comes next after Jesus Ween?
A: The World Evangelism Day is on November 1st and that encourages us to reach-out to everyone in our neighborhoods with the gift of salvation. Each time a soul is won for Christ or at least they are told about Jesus, that’s what we see as a “JesusWin moment”. The essence of the cross has been fulfilled or at least the seed has been planted. Some groups may choose to continue for a few weeks or for the entire year. Regardless, we will continue pray and plan to reach more people each year. Afterwards, some may decides to gather in groups and churches to share testimonies, feedbacks and to pray for those we have reached. October 31st is fast approaching and God has inspired us to once again encourage Christians all over the world to play a significant role this year. We introduce to you the JesusWeen Christian gift giving festival which we hope will be an alternative for those who don’t celebrate or believe in Halloween. The dictionary meaning of Ween is to expect, believe or think. We therefore see October 31^st as a day to expect a salvation gift or think of receiving Jesus.

We strongly believe this initiative will be beneficial to all Christians, Churches, and Christian Bookstores as well. JesusWeen will continue to have a positive effect and provide an alternative activity to millions of people worldwide. JesusWeen is expected to become the most effective Christian outreach day ever and that’s why we also call it “World Evangelism Day”, with an outreach on November 1st. It’s a day to give out Christian gifts, just as God gave us Jesus.

No more hiding on October 31st. ..You can participate in a positive way. JESUSWEEN is all about spreading the gospel on October 31st. We are not supporting or endorsing the celebration of Halloween but we have chosen to use the only day in most countries that individuals are allowed to solicit, interact and exchange gifts without breaking the law.

Every year over 25 million people ask Google “who is Jesus”. It is unclear if they are given a godly answer to their question. Most are also directed to resources that will only provide little or very confusing information about Jesus and the Gospels. How To Participate

Individuals

Individuals can participate by giving out several Christian gifts on October 31st, especially when someone knocks on your door expecting candy, we prescribe you give a pocket size bible, gospel cd, Tracts, Poems, etc. You can print posters from JesusWeen website to post in your church or local bookstore. You can also give out your used Christian books and cds. We hope to have free publications and affordable links to buy helpful gift items

Groups

Outreach groups can be formed through church fellowships, cell groups, friends and colleagues. It could be small or larger groups go door to door, or evangelizing in the park. We recommend very little dialogue and more focus on giving a gift items or Christian books. Ministries and churches can be creative by including their contact information in the gift items, this will help the recipients know where to get more of the Good News.

Everyone

JesusWeen has been carefully planned with everyone in mind. Churches, ministries, individuals and groups can all participate physically, virtually, financially and prayerfully. We have made more impact in Canada, and the US. No one will be restricted from participating. All you need to do is pray first, then form a group and inform us via email, and we will provide you with further information and guidance. We only need need to do this by faith.

You can participate as an individual, group or church by providing free bibles, tracts and other Christian educational gifts to friends and strangers. In Every City, Street, Home or School.
