The Latest Christian Halloween Protest: ‘JesusWeen’
What is JesusWeen? It’s an unfortunately-named Christian organization that opposes “ungodly” Halloween and its “evil characters.” This October 31st, instead of Mars bars, group members plan to hand trick-or-treaters mini Bibles. JesusWeen founder Pastor Paul Ade began replacing sugar with scripture in 2002. “All it took was putting a bible into every bag as they opened each bag with a smile”.

‘Jesus Ween’: Christian Group Promotes Godly Alternative To Halloween
It’s got costumes, it’s got candy, but for some, what Halloween appears to be lacking is Christianity. To combat this apparent imbalance, one Christian group is promoting what it calls ‘Jesus Ween’, a faith-based alternative to the holiday.

Happy JesusWeen!
A Calgary religious group is swapping the good book for gumdrops; the ‘Jesusween’ initiative encourages homes to hand out bibles as well as chocolate bars. “Now Christians don’t have to be timid or be quiet or hide on that night. They can spread the word of god!” says Pastor Tim of the Gateway International Church. The group says it’s their way of reclaiming All Hallows Eve. “We give it out in addition to candy. Jesusween is not against candy or trying to hijack Halloween. Jesusween is about giving something more positive instead of all the gory images,” says Tim. Jesusween officially began in Calgary in 2002 and has spread to church groups worldwide. However, not everyone’s a fan. “I’m an atheist. I would just say no thank you, says one Calgarian Global News spoke with.

Pastor Hopes Christians Will Celebrate ‘Jesus Ween’ Instead of Halloween
Jesus Ween is a non for Profit Organisation also known as JesusWin. We are focused on helping people live a better life. We educate people on how best to relate with non for profit organisations that publish devotionals, daily bread and Bibles. We also focused on helping people feel comfortable with volunteering with institutions that help the poor. Pastor Ade’s take on Halloween may seen a bit odd to some, but for select Christian denominations, the holiday is viewed as being too rooted in the occult. So, churches who find it offensive often hold alternative events on October 31 each year.

Happy Jesus-ween: Canada pastor invents ‘Christian alternative’ to Halloween
Pastor Paul Ade wants October 31st to be associated with Jesus, not creepy costumes and candy, reports the Calgary Herald. That’s why he’s urging members of his congregation to wear white and hand out bibles on Halloween night. The so-called godly alternative to Halloween, which has its roots in both pagan and Christian traditions, is being dubbed “Jesus-ween”. “If it’s OK for a child to know about demons, it should also be OK for a child to know about Jesus,” Ade says. As he told Gawker.

Pastor Invents ‘Jesus Ween,’ Wants Christians to Pass Out Bibles on Halloween
The Christian group behind Jesus Ween, also known as Jesus Win, was concerned that Halloween promoted immoral subject matter, leaving Christians without a healthy substitute. The new holiday was conceived by Pastor Paul Ade, who leads a congregation in Calgary. Ade doesn’t believe Christians should celebrate the holiday. “I think it’s an activity that doesn’t have anything to do with Christians,” Ade told Gawker. “And I think many Christian families are not knowledgeable of what it’s all about.” “Halloween is not consistent with the Christian faith. Many people say they feel uncomfortable on that day. Supporters have high ambitions, expecting the new holiday to “become the most effective Christian outreach day ever,” according to the Jesus Ween website. The goal of Jesus Ween is to turn Halloween into a day of praise and awareness for Christian values instead of the promotion of “ungodly images and evil characters.”

Pat Robertson Calls Halloween ‘Satan’s Night,’ While Christians Use Holiday to Witness
During an episode of “The 700 Club,” Robertson’s daily talk show, a viewer wrote in saying he felt “unsettled” by the fact that every year his church “hosted one of the area’s largest haunted houses,” and how popular the holiday was in the church community. Robertson responded, “I agree with you, we need the power of God, not some kind of earth-set entertainment. We don’t believe in haunted, we don’t believe in ghosts, we don’t believe in all this business. Halloween is Satan’s night, it’s the night of the devil.” He continued, “Churches shouldn’t do that. You can do something besides have a haunted house. According to the initiative’s founder, Pastor Paul, “Christians will not have to hide during Halloween; instead they will share God’s love by giving others a gift.”

Should Christians buy into Halloween?
Because of its pagan origins and emphasis on death, celebrating Halloween is out of the question for many, but many are finding some use for it. JesusWeen, a creation of Pastor Paul Ade, aims to knock on doors come Oct. 31 and instead of shouting “trick-or-treat,” hand out Bibles to the occupants. Other Christians say they have a hard time explaining to their children why there are suddenly skulls and vampires on display, and that the kids are disappointed when they’re not allowed to join in the fun. Others use it as a chance to celebrate the harvest, or hold a fundraiser for the church.

Celebrate Jesus Ween: The Godly Halloween Alternative

Reluctant to have your little ones participate in a demonic (but delicious!) pagan ritual? Then choose to celebrate Jesus Ween this October 31st instead. A friendly, talkative man with an Asian accent answered. His name was Pastor Paul Ade, who runs a congregation out of Calgary. Jesus Ween was Pastor Paul’s brainchild, and very much a real thing — which he hopes will become a worldwide phenomenon. I asked Pastor Paul what he had against Halloween. “I think it’s an activity that doesn’t have anything to do with Christians,” he told me. “And I think many Christian families are not knowledgeable to what it’s all about. Halloween is not consistent with the Christian faith. Many people say they feel uncomfortable on that day. We think people should choose an alternative activity.”

Bibles or candy: What are you giving out?

Toronto organizers have been petitioning churches and canvassing at local shopping centres. Roughly 500 area churches have been made aware of the program, said John Crowne of JesusWeen’s Toronto office. Other grassroots marketers have posted flyers in grocery stores and on car windshields. The website states that 2011 efforts are focused on Toronto, Calgary and Edmonton. JesusWeen also encourages participants to forego “evil”-looking costumes in favour of all-white attire. But anti-JesusWeen campaigners have taken to social media in the run-up to Halloween, criticizing the initiative for targeting children with religious dogma. “A Protest Against Jesus Ween” and “Stop the fascist Jesus-ween movement” are two Facebook groups. Late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel spoofed the program earlier this month.

Pastor Promotes ‘Jesus Ween’ as Halloween Alternative
Pastor Paul Ade is working to encourage Christians all over the world to set aside Halloween for evangelism. His suggestions: Christians should dress in white, rather than wearing costumes. The white attire symbolizes the righteousness of God as participants knock on doors to share God’s love. The group also suggests replacing sugar with Scripture. Pocket-size Bibles, Christian music, and tracts are among the Christian gifts Jesus Ween suggests. Although the group inspires all cities and countries to engage in what they are also calling “World Evangelism Day,” they have a goal to significantly impact the areas of Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, Maryland, Houston, Dallas and London. “Halloween is not consistent with the Christian faith,” says Ade. “Many people say they feel uncomfortable on that day. We think people should choose an alternative activity.”

Organizers describe the event as an alternative for Christians who feel uncomfortable with the premise of Halloween. Oct. 31, the website says, is a day where “ungodly images and evil characters” are celebrated “while Christians all over the world participate, hide or just stay quiet.” Because it’s also a day when neighbours visit each other’s homes, Ade decided in 2002 it would be a perfect opportunity to hand out Bibles or kid-themed Christian literature to the costumed kids and their parents that came to his door. Mr. Ade is the founder of JesusWeen, a Christian alternative to Halloween gaining traction in Canada, the United States and the U.K. Instead of chocolate bars and lollipops, JesusWeen participants hand out Bibles, pieces of scripture or other Christian-themed gifts.

JesusWeen ‘saves’ kids
In 2002, a US pastor was inspired to purchase numerous bibles which he then handed out to trick-or-treaters on 31 October, Halloween, according to JesusWeen.com. The Christian church has often been at odds with those celebrating Halloween for its association with pagan traditions, ‘witchcraft’ and ‘satanism’. It’s still a big deal, especially for many Americans whose kids put on fancy-dress costumes and patrol their neighbourhoods looking for sweets. Now Christian kids are being encouraged to hand out tracts, bibles and other Christian gifts at the same time as the trick-or-treaters hit the streets.

JesusWeen: Tract or treat!
Some Christians insist that Halloween is capitulating to demonic forces. Enter JesusWeen. Ween, handily, is an old-fashioned word that can mean “believe”–as in, “I ween that this holiday is very silly.” So the good folks of JesusWeen have set out to reclaim the holiday and turn it into an evangelistic opportunity. “JesusWeen is expected to become the most effective Christian outreach day ever,” their website proclaims, “and that is why we also call it ‘World Evangelism Day.’” JesusWeen began when a Toronto-based pastor, Paul Ade, heard a word from God encouraging him to pass out copies of the New Testament to kids who came knocking on his door from Halloween.

About

JesusWeen is a Christian evangelism movement also known as JesusWin or the “World Evangelism Day”. We are focused on helping people live better lives through the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. JesusWeen is a God-given vision which was born as an answer to the cry of many believers who find joy in sharing the gospel with the unsaved. The dictionary meaning of Ween is to think, expect and believe. These inspires us to give gospel gifts of salvation on every October 31st. We expect some to receive salvation while others will get to know of the gospel. These awareness is key to salvation and also serves as a priceless seed. We will continue with this vision irrespective of the ongoing pressure to discourage our work and stop the movement from spreading worldwide.

Some Perspectives

Every year, the world and its system have a day set aside to celebrate ungodly images and evil characters while some Christians all over the world either participate, hide or just stay quiet in fear during the Halloween celebrations. In some countries, October 31st is the only day that is widely acceptable to solicit and knock on doors. God has inspired us to encourage Christians to use this day as an opportunity to spread the gospel. The days of hiding are over and we should feel comfortable to take a stand for Jesus. “Evil prevails when good people do nothing”. JesusWeen has steadily grown and it’s expected to become one of the most effective Christian outreaches. This faith-based act of love eventually became a 2 day outreach to better accommodate the volume of harvest.

How It Started

In 2002, Pastor Paul Ade requested 300 copies of New Testament pocket size Bibles from the Bible Society to use for personal evangelism. A few days before Halloween, a word came to him to give out bibles to everyone knocking at his door expecting candy. On that day over 40 bibles were given out without him stepping out of his house. All it took was putting a bible into every bag as they opened each bag with a smile. It was much easier than expected and since then he got his kids to join him each year. Then in 2011 Pastor Paul Ade was led to share his harvest report with other believers and it was well received. This was followed by a major publicity campaign and then the initiative went viral in several countries.

FAQ

World Evangelism Day Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: How is JesusWeen different from World Evangelism Day?
A: JesusWeen is a dedicated day to give out Christian scriptural gifts to strangers, especially those who knock on your door or those who patronize your business. This takes place more within your home, work, or immediate neighborhood. The World Evangelism Day is similar but more effective if done in groups or as a church. This involves going out to parks, malls and your entire neigbourhood to give a Christian life changing gift to anyone that is willing to receive them. Your group or church can create a plan for the entire city, or work within our strategy to enable churches to focus on different areas of the city, and together we will reach everyone. While JesusWeen is more closer to your home, World Evangelism Day is focused on the entire neigborhood, city and nation. It’s important to be strategic and thoughtful when planning. You may need a few weeks or months to plan, while a full year plan may be more appropriate if you are planning as a group or church. We should include prayers in our planning as well as fasting to ensure we succeed and grow yearly. JesusWeen is an annual global festival that holds every October 31st, while the next day is World Evangelism Day, November 1st.

Q: I love the idea of Jesus Ween and I intend to participate. However, I would like to give out candy in addition to the bibles. Is this okay?
A: The Jesus Ween initiative is not against candy. It’s all about spreading the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. So if you want to give out candy in addition to your Christian gifts, it is very okay.

Q: I want to participate in this initiative. Do I have to wear a white top on October 31st?
A: Feel free to wear whatever you are comfortable with as long as it is consistent with the gospel you are spreading. We suggested wearing a white top because of those who have cultured themselves to wear an evil depicting costume on that day. You could dress as you do on any normal day.

Q: As a celebrant of Jesus Ween, what do I say to those who knock on my door to trick or treat?
A: Just say “Jesus Loves You” Please don’t get into any argument of some sort. Besides, Jesus did not send us to argue or to debate with the world, He sent us to spread the good news (gospel). Telling anyone (young or old) that Jesus loves them is the good news.

Q: What is JesusWin?
A: JesusWin is when a Christian gift of salvation is given to someone, or whenever the gospel is preached, or when someone receives salvation. The end goal is the seed of salvation has been planted and such a person either gets saved or now has a seed planted in or around them, to begin their journey that should eventually lead them to salvation.

Q: Where can I get the bibles to give out?
A: We previously helped with making bibles and tracts available, and we will help with such resources in the future. You can find organizations who provide bibles for free or for less than $2 online or in your city. You could also create your own tract or order from a Christian organization.

Q: Is it your objective to hijack Halloween and replace it with JesusWeen?
A: No, that is not our objective. The objective is to spread the gospel and expand the kingdom of God here on earth. Jesus Ween is an alternative for anyone who chooses not to celebrate Halloween, especially for Christians. Many Christians are not knowledgeable about the spiritual implications of some aspects of Halloween which is why we encourage them to choose Jesus Ween, the Godly alternative on October 31st. Jesus Ween is about celebrating life not death.

Q: You could have chosen any other day in the year to spread the gospel but you chose October 31st. Why?
A: There’s no better day to choose. October 31st presents us with a unique opportunity to spread the gospel in that it is a day that is widely acceptable to solicit and go door to door, which is why we also call it World Evangelism Day and included November 1st for a peaceful outreach to show love by giving out free gifts like Jesus freely gave us salvation. You don’t even have to go out of your way; people will come to your doorstep anyway. So why not take advantage of the opportunities presented to us to make an impact.

Q: What comes next after Jesus Ween?
A: The World Evangelism Day is on November 1st and that encourages us to reach-out to everyone in our neighborhoods with the gift of salvation. Each time a soul is won for Christ or at least they are told about Jesus, that’s what we see as a “JesusWin moment”. The essence of the cross has been fulfilled or at least the seed has been planted. Some groups may choose to continue for a few weeks or for the entire year. Regardless, we will continue pray and plan to reach more people each year. Afterwards, some may decides to gather in groups and churches to share testimonies, feedbacks and to pray for those we have reached. We also encourage participants to share their testimonies on JesusWeen.com or WorldEvangelismDay.com or via email to jesusween@gmail.com.  We will tell it on the mountain tops and praise God for making us relevant by giving us such a wonderful opportunity to uplift others.

Press Release

September 12th

October 31st is fast approaching and God has inspired us to once again encourage Christians all over the world to play a significant role this year. We introduce to you the JesusWeen Christian gift giving festival which we hope will be an alternative for those who don’t celebrate or believe in Halloween. The dictionary meaning of Ween is to expect, believe or think. We therefore see October 31st as a day to expect a salvation gift or think of receiving Jesus.

We strongly believe this initiative will be beneficial to all Christians, Churches, and Christian Bookstores as well. JesusWeen will continue to have a positive effect and provide an alternative activity to millions of people worldwide. JesusWeen is expected to become the most effective Christian outreach day ever and that’s why we also call it “World Evangelism Day”, with an outreach on November 1st. It’s a day to give out Christian gifts, just as God gave us Jesus.

No more hiding on October 31st. ..You can participate in a positive way. JESUSWEEN is all about spreading the gospel on October 31st. We are not supporting or endorsing the celebration of Halloween but we have chosen to use the only day in most countries that individuals are allowed to solicit, interact and exchange gifts without breaking the law.

Every year over 25 million people ask Google “who is Jesus”. It is unclear if they are given a godly answer to their question. Most are also directed to resources that will only provide little or very confusing information about Jesus and the Gospels. We hope to provide this much needed answers at all times, especially in the month of October and November.

Christians and Muslims may not agree on a lot of things, but they often have positive expectations for their kids and can see when society is leading everyone in the wrong direction.

Christian Kids Perspective

Bible Scriptures On Children

“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”
– Proverbs 22:6

“I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.”
– 3 John 1:4

Kids Learn From Their Parents

The bible says we should train up our kids in the way they should go, so that they will grow up and remain in that path. We have a common objective as believers, and that is to reach others with the sweet gospel of salvation. While this should be done everyday as some already do, we are working with other believers to preach the gospel and share free tracts and bibles every November 1st.
